Winston-Salem, NC(January 21, 2011) -- During his UARA-STARS Series Rookie campaign, Ronnie Bassett, Jr. piloted his own family owned team to one pole award and several top ten finishes.

After a trying season full of bad breaks and bad luck, Bassett spent the off-season looking to make improvements in his program. He and his father, Ronnie Sr., looked at all the options, but in the end they decided to park their own equipment in favor of going to drive for one of the more established Driver Development teams competing in the UARA-STARS Series.

Bassett will compete the 2011 season for Jamie Yelton's, Fat Head Racing team, the same team that helped lead Brennan Poole to six wins in the UARA-STARS Series in 2010. The Fat Head Racing

team has been among the most successful Driver Development programs in all of Late Model Stock Car racing. FHR has helped groom the careers of not only Poole, but Paddy Rodenbeck as well and even fielded an entry for NASCAR Nationwide Series driver, Steven Wallace. Former Joe Gibbs Racing driver, Matt DiBenedetto also made a start in a Fat Head Racing prepared car before moving up the ranks.

Bassett is hoping that the move to Fat Head Racing will help him continue to build his career and help him to build upon his limited success as a rookie last season in the UARA-STARS Series. The young driver is excited about the opportunity to join such a successful team and hopes that he can continue the trend with FHR and take the team to victory lane multiple times in 2011.

"I'm pretty excited about this deal," Bassett said of joining Fat Head Racing. "Jamie(Yelton) has built a great team over there and with the success they had last season, it was a no brainer for us to get together with them for this season."

Bassett knows that not only did the success that FHR had during the 2010 season make it a great place for him to go race, but it also puts some pressure on him to get to victory lane.

"I expected to be able to win races last year and we finally got to a point there in the middle of the season where we could compete for wins, but we never broke through. They(FHR) were winning races left and right and when the chance came for me to join FHR, I knew it would put pressure on me to go over there and pick up where they left off."

Bassett and his new team have already begun testing and getting themselves prepared for the 2011 season, which will begin on March 12th at Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, NC. Bassett and his new crew chief, Nick Hutchins have already been getting to know one another and Hutchins is excited about the opportunity to not only work for Fat Head Racing, but to tutor his new young driver.

"Ronnie has shown that he's a good little driver over the last season or so," said Hutchins. "He certainly showed last year that despite some mid-pack qualifying efforts, he had one of the best cars toward the end of a lot of races. I'm looking forward to working with him and all the guys at Fat Head Racing."

Fat Head Racing owner, Jamie Yelton is also pretty excited about the chance to work with Bassett and says he kept an eye on the young driver last season.

"Ronnie(Bassett) is a good young driver," said Yelton. "I could see that watching him last season, like when he won the pole at Lonesome Pine and drove in the top top three all night. He proved he was up for the task, but for some reason he just couldn't get the results he needed all season. Hopefully working with him and having Nick(Hutchins) on as his crew chief, we can give him everything he needs to start winning races."

Through testing and mental preparation, Bassett is hoping he can start the season off right at Hickory Motor Speedway.

"We need to get started off on the right foot at Hickory," continued Bassett. "This is a good chance for me to start winning races with a team that's proven itself over the last couple of seasons and there's no place better than Hickory to go get that first win."

Bassett is supported by K-Guard Gutter Systems, Bassett Gutters and More, Marlowe Racing Chassis, Fat Head Racing and Circle Racing Wheels. For more information on Ronnie Bassett, Jr. visit his website at
